The Process

A person can apply for Israeli citizenship in the country of his or her origin, but it is also possible to apply for a status change after entering Israel as a tourist. A person, who comes to Israel based on the tourist visa and desires to stay in Israel, should apply for a change of status in the closest branch office of the Ministry of Interior. This given procedure can take a significant amount of time since, during the last years, the process of status change has been made more complicated by the Israeli authorities.

The Situation

Many people who have the right to make Aliyah are in Israel already. Israeli authorities must have proof of the eligibility for Aliyah to grant the status of an immigrant to a person. This process, however, gets stalled until the applicant submits all the necessary original documents to the Ministry of Interior. Different archives in synagogues and family registries must be contacted; documents must be applied for and verified or authorized. Global Aliyah has the experience and necessary networks to provide help in this new situation. Many hundreds have so far received consultations and assistance.

Global Aliyah helps with following services:

  • Giving consultations and explaining the rights, privileges and obligations prior to change of status from tourist to the status of Oleh Hadash (the new immigrant) and after receiving the status of Oleh Hadash
  • Assistance in translating and authorizing documents
  • Assistance in document search archives in synagogues and family registries to prove the Jewishness of the applicants.
  • Assistance in DNA testing to prove family relations and Jewish roots
  • Encouraging the tourist-olim applicants morally
